Baseball Bets Reap Rewards for Winners and Losers Alike

Can you say, 'they're working it?' Florists betting on their hometown teams in the playoffs to the World Series are winning more than just ball games. Their massive PR campaign has won them a truckload of great press, too. And, the media attention they're garnering — newspaper, television, radio, on the Web and in press releases — continues to steamroll on even in this final week of the playoffs.

Since last week, Rockies fans BJ Dyer, AAF, AIFD, and Guenther Vogt, AAF, of Bouquets in Denver made headlines in The Rocky Mountain News including a feature photo, Great Falls Tribune, The Denver Post and their local CBS TV 9 News affiliate.

Even the out-of-state Montana newspaper, Great Falls Tribune, featured a front-page article about Dyer, a former Great Falls resident, and his winning donation to charity, courtesy of the bet he and Vogt won over Scott and Chad Kremp, AAF, of Kremp Florist in Philadelphia.

Dyer and Vogt's Rockies swept Phoenix Flower Shops florist Ken Young's (AAF) Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-0, to capture the National League champs crown. Despite his team's loss, Young is happy about the PR. In addition to last week's television coverage Young says his store received some more publicity on television from the local KPHO 5 CBS News and on the Web from KTAR, an Arizona news radio station.

We already know one part of the 2007 World Series equation, and that spot belongs to Dyer and Vogt's Rockies. As for who their team will end up playing in the championship series, well, that will be determined either tomorrow night, if retailer Rick Fracci's Indians come out with a victory, or perhaps later this weekend, if Rick Canale's Red Sox pull out some major wins.

Fracci, of Fracci Florist in Cleveland, says his store received a media hit and scored local buzz, from coverage on a local television program. And, Canale of Boston's Exotic Flowers put out a press release on the Mass Media Distribution Newswire to capture the attention of media outlets.
