On Oct. 15, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) vetoed the California deceptive listings bill, A.B. 1282.

The bill, which bans floral or ornamental products or service companies from misrepresenting their geographic location, was sent to the governor for signing on Sept. 6, but he returned it without his signature.

"In today's global economy, it is unreasonable to limit out-of-area businesses from using local names and telephone numbers," he wrote to the California State Assembly. "In virtually every aspect of the economy, consumers are accustomed to purchasing products from around the world via many methods."

Ann Quinn, executive vice president of the California State Floral Association, is "disappointed," but says, "23 states cannot be wrong. We will persevere and reintroduce this legislation again."  She says she is grateful for all the industry members who voiced their support of the bill to the governor's office.
