Watch Your Step For New Advertising Technique

Sidewalks might be the next big medium for advertising — but not with the slick color decal ads that cover airline tray tables and linoleum floors. Instead, a company based in the United Kingdom is leveraging the gritty and bold power of graffiti to increase a product's brand awareness — beneath the feet of city slickers.  And, did we mention it's environmentally friendly?

Here's how Street Advertising Services works. They transform an advertiser's logo or design idea into a stencil design and, using a combination of high-pressure steam and water, reproduce the artwork onto a dirty surface, such as a sidewalk.

So far, the company has only worked in the United Kingdom, but it is open to creating the advertisements just about anywhere, according to Springwise. Rates for this advertising technique start at about $2,000 (GBP 1,000) per city, which features 15-20 ads, and are subject to additional costs for setup.

Looking for more ways to advertise your business? Read recent E-Brief coverage about using traditional mediums and new online formats such as social networking and rate-it-yourself Web sites.
