Post Responds to SAF

SAF recently responded to negative floral references in USA WEEKEND — and got a positive reaction.

Two articles featured negative statements about flowers, provided by party-planning expert Linnea Johansson and etiquette expert Peggy Post, who said: "Don't give something to the busy host that's going to distract them. A big bouquet of flowers will force your host to search for a vase and a spot to put the arrangement."

SAF responded to USA WEEKEND, Johansson and Post. In letters to USA WEEKEND and Post, SAF provided floral gift-giving tips: "Ask your florist to deliver a cheerful arrangement or holiday plant earlier in the day to the host. The host then has an opportunity to display it properly, and the floral gift expresses your best wishes and thanks for the invitation. Send flowers the day after the party as a thank-you gift."

Last week, Elizabeth Howell, public relations director for Peggy Post, called SAF to thank us for our comments. Howell said "Peggy loved our tips and will be sharing them," says Jenny Stromann, SAF's consumer marketing director.
