A Rose for Rosa

There’s a new “Freedom Rose” in town, this one honoring Rosa Parks and her contribution to the Civil Rights movement.

To mark the anniversary of Park’s refusal to surrender her seat to a white male passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus, Dec. 1, 1955, Organicstyle.com is offering Freedom® — A Rose in Honor of Rosa Parks (left), a bouquet of red tea roses (not to be confused with the standard rose 'Freedom' which won a blue ribbon at the 2007 SAF Outstanding Varieties Competition).

Organic Style will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from the sale of this bouquet to the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development, founded by its namesake in 1987 to help motivate youth to reach their potential.

The foundation designed programs based on Parks’ philosophy of “Quiet Strength,” which engages youth in hands-on experiences to build practical day-to-day living skills.

“We promote multicultural participation in our program to provide youth with a cross-cultural exposure for nurturing a global and inclusive perspective,” the foundation says.
