'A Day in the Life' for Congressional Action Days Attendees
Ever wonder what it's like to be a Member of Congress? Congressional Action Days attendees will get to find out.
Congressional Action Days, Feb. 25-26, in Washington D.C., will feature an exciting, interactive session to let attendees experience a day in the life of the average Member of Congress, and, ultimately, learn to communicate with lawmakers more effectively.
The session, "Congressional Insight," will be held Feb. 25. Tara Smith, director of public affairs for the National Association of Manufacturers, who will help lead the session, says attendees will be broken up into teams, each team representing a freshman Member of Congress.
To simulate the first two years of Congress, about every five minutes each "Member of Congress" will be presented with a new challenge — such as picking committees, hiring staff, and even voting — with the goal of being "re-elected" at the end of the session. Members of Congress' decisions will be analyzed, and they will even receive three sets of "approval ratings."
"Experiencing the conditions that a Member of Congress operates under — the demands, time, constituents — will make attendees better prepared to approach them, and more effective at doing so," Smith says.
