DWF Delivers, Despite Truck Fire

Despite a truck fire Valentine’s Day week, DWF Wholesale Florists says orders were still fulfilled and the company came out on top during the especially busy holiday.

On Feb. 11 at around 8 a.m. on I-84 just east of Boise, Idaho, a flower delivery truck transporting flowers from DWF’s Boise facility caught fire, SAF recently reported.

The driver “noticed smoke coming out of the back of the truck, [so] he pulled over on the Interstate,” explains David Gaul, AAF, vice president of DWF. “By then, the refrigeration unit had caught on fire,” and it was all pretty much ruined. The driver called the fire department, which came quickly, but unfortunately, everything had to be trashed from that point on.

Gaul confirms the company lost about $50,000 in inventory, but says, with the help of its suppliers, the company was able to fulfill most of its orders in time for Valentine’s Day.

“We deal with such great companies that turned around when we needed the help,” Gaul says. “They all stepped forward.” Gaul says the company used FedEx to send product directly to the shops. “We filled almost all the orders. We came out on top, almost.”
