Moms Aren't the Only Ones Hailed in May

Mother's Day might be the biggest, but it's not the only holiday that could drive consumers to your store during the month of May.

National Nurses Week, is May 6-12. According to Florida Nurses Association, National Nurses' Day was first recognized on May 6, 1982, and in 1991, the American Nurses Association (ANA) extended the daylong holiday to a weeklong (May 6-12) celebration commemorating the health care professionals.

This holiday celebrates "the work of America's 2.9 million registered nurses [that] save lives and maintain the health of millions of individuals," the Association's site states.

Another one to remember for that same week is National Teachers Day, May 6. Many schools observe it the full week, as Teacher Appreciation Week.

Keep abreast on other lesser-known observances by visiting Web sites such as Chase's Calendar of Events and Official 2008 holidays. A few highlights from these lists:
