Popular Magazines Push Flower Power
Flowers really do have the power to improve workplace productivity and brighten your mood, touts two national magazines.
Prevention magazine - In its April 2008 edition, Prevention reports "women who worked for an hour in a room decorated with two potted plants and a bouquet of flowers generated 13% more ideas." The article cites the Impact of Flowers & Plants on Workplace Productivity Study, which was conducted at Texas A&M University, and has generated nearly 7.6 million consumer impressions. The study, publicity efforts and media coverage are a direct result of the SAF PR Fund. Since its inception in 2001, PR Fund programs have generated nearly 800 million consumer impressions.
Redbook magazine - "Looking at a fresh bouquet may make you feel happier and more energetic," proclaims an article in the April 2008 issue of Redbook. The piece goes on to quote the lead author of the study, Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D., saying that those who caught a glimpse of the flowers felt more compassionate the rest of the day and their mood improved. The magazine promotes the Home Ecology of Flowers Study, conducted at Harvard University on behalf of the SAF/Flower Promotion Organization Alliance. The article has generated more than 10.5 million consumer impressions, bringing the total impressions generated by the SAF/FPO Alliance to nearly 253 million since its inception in 2006.
Hometown newspaper and magazine editors and local TV and radio news producers thrive on turning national news items into community stories.
