TV Drama Exhibits Power of Flowers

The gift of flowers have an 'oohing' and 'ahhing' power, as demonstrated in the ABC primetime TV show, "Men In Trees."

In the Thursday, April 24 episode, "Kiss and Don't Tell," flowers played a prominent role in cheering up employees at a hard-working, all-business publishing house in New York City. The storyline follows Patrick, a friend-of-a-friend to Jane, who comes on board in Jane's office to lend a hand with work. What Patrick discovers however, is that his efforts are not needed with office work only — he's there to help make Jane a better person and teach her how to truly appreciate her employees. Patrick gets the idea to make a positive change in the office (and tell everyone it was Jane's idea) by making every office day special, starting with "Flower Wednesdays." He goes out and buys florist-arranged bouquets for every co-worker's desk to help brighten their days and make the office a pleasant and productive workplace. His desired effect is achieved, with all of the co-workers oohing and ahhing over the beautiful flowers.

The episode lends credence to the Emotional Impact of Flowers Study, conducted at Rutgers University and the Impact of Flowers & Plants on Workplace Productivity Study, a Texas A&M University study — both studies are a direct result of the SAF PR Fund.
