Florist's Promotion Celebrates Mother's Day Century Mark
Mother's Day 2008 marks a century of celebration of the national holiday, and to commemorate it, a Florida florist is jumping aboard the 100 years theme with a special promotion.
Sue Wilson, owner of Artistic Flowers in Ocala, Fla., plans to honor mothers that have also reached the 100-years-old mark — centenarians — with free bouquets of flowers on the morning of Mother's Day, May 11.
According to an article in Ocala's local newspaper, the South Marion Citizen, Artistic Flowers will accept proof of age documents for the centenarians at the shop up until May 8 (it isn't necessary for the moms to present the proof, others can do it for them, too.)
The article profiled one of the 100-year-old moms, Bernice "Smitty" Williams, who achieved the milestone herself on March 22. "I don't feel old," Williams was quoted as saying. "I feel young inside." The very active centenarian — she enjoys watching sports, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and a little gambling now and then — believes that her age doesn't limit what she is able to do. She did, however, say: "It's great to be 100, but it's getting to the point where it's almost embarrassing."
