Flowers, Florists Get Positive PR
The power of flowers and the benefits of working with a florist made news in a national magazine, an online magazine and an Internet business resource.
• In the May 26 issue of Woman's World magazine, an article called "Strip away stress with fresh-cut flowers" discusses the Home Ecology of Flowers Study, a result of public relations by the SAF/FPO Alliance. The Harvard research found that living with flowers makes people feel more energetic, compassionate and kinder toward others. Printed in the section "Research-proven ways to enjoy life more," the article says the presence of flowers on a nightstand or in the kitchen can make mornings run smoothly. This article has generated more than 4.5 million consumer impressions, bringing the total SAF/FPO consumer impressions to more than 272 million.
• The benefits of working with a professional florist are espoused in a May 14 American Chronicle article on trends in bridesmaids' bouquets. The online magazine says that, according to the Society of American Florists, "No longer do the bridesmaids´ bouquets need to match the bridal bouquet, the boutonnieres and centerpieces. In some cases, each bridesmaid may have a different bouquet." A large section focuses on the benefits of working with a professional florist, with advice including, "Because there are so many varieties and shades of flowers, consulting a professional florist will be helpful..." It even provides potential consumers with a list of questions to ask their florist. The article wraps up by encouraging readers to "trust your florist's guidance on flower choices, and allow her to suggest flowers that work well with your dress, the attire for the bridal party and color selections." This article is a direct result of the SAF PR Fund.
• In a May 21 posting, "Growing buds in offices increase employee's job satisfaction," The Business Shrink, a Web site offering business advice, advises that plants have the ability to make offices happier and increase productivity. It highlights SAF's The Impact of Flowers & Plants on Workplace Productivity Study, conducted at Texas A&M University. The piece breaks down the ins and outs of the study to demonstrate how the positive effects of flowers and plants in the workplace were unearthed. "Basically, if the office is seeming a little dull it probably needs some sprucing up with some plants, a new view or some flowers," concludes the piece. This article is a direct result of the SAF PR Fund.
"Hometown newspaper and magazine editors and local TV and radio news producers thrive on turning national news items into community stories," says Jenny Stromann, SAF's director of marketing. You can capitalize on these studies and generate local news coverage for your business by taking advantage of customizable press releases available free to SAF members.
