Reader Feedback: If You Don't Want Same-Sex Couples, I Do
Our June 11 E-Brief story on the potential boom to the California wedding industry given the legalization of same-sex marriages prompted an e-mail from retail florist Erlene LeBorgne of Rosemont Floral in Portland, Maine. LeBorgne sent E-Brief editors a link to a Los Angeles Times article about some same-sex couples being turned down by wedding vendors. Although the new law won't directly affect her, LeBorgne doesn't see the logic behind turning away new business.
"I find it interesting that so many businesses refuse to work with same-sex partners, and not just florists. Might as well shoot yourself in the foot; the effect is the same. I wish we had the ability to work with more same-sex partners in our area."
