Posing in front of Adam's Florist's new Ford Escape are (L to R) Marty Pulliam (Teleflora Market Counselor), Christina Lukendill, Bailey Bateman, Carrie Bateman and Tom Butler. | After a busy, last-minute order-packed Mother's Day, what florist wouldn't appreciate a nice escape? Carrie Bateman won a four-wheeled one after her aggressive Mother's Day promotions paid off with a new Ford Escape for the shop's use.
Bateman, owner of Adam's Florist in Paragould, Ark., is the winner of Teleflora's America's Favorite Mom, Mom-ination sweepstakes. To help its America's Favorite Mom contest, Teleflora asked its members to drive nominations. Every nomination a shop got from Feb. 15 to April 15 translated into an entry for the new vehicle. Bateman's name was randomly selected and she received her prize on June 12.
"When we found out we were just screaming and hollering," Bateman says. "We really worked hard and we were proud of what we did."
Bateman brought in about 390 nominations — an impressive and hard-fought harvest considering the city's population of more than 22,000. Starting in February, every order that went out on Valentine's Day (at least 600) and on orders everyday afterward included a flyer about the contest. Bateman ran a commercial on local cable, told everyone that came into the shop or called the store and promoted the contest on the Web site. During prom season, the shop offered a 15 percent discount on corsages for teens who nominated their mom.
The shop also offered a contest incentive of its own. Every time a customer nominated a mother, he or she was entered into a weekly contest for one of three free arrangements.
Bateman says she hopes winning this contest isn't a one-time deal. "We look forward to all the promotions and we're ready for the next one," she adds.
