Join Us to Help Eradicate Botrytis and Thrips

Earlier this year, a special research campaign was established to address the control and management of Botrytis and thrips.

The goal is to raise $1.5 million through industry support to conduct new and innovative research leading to effective control procedures and management strategies. The research will lead to reduced losses and higher quality flowers and plants.

Special AFE Session a Hit at Proflora

Recently, AFE went on the road and presented to a large crowd of growers, importers, wholesalers and retailers.

Thanks to Asocolflores for arranging a special education session, AFE-sponsored researchers presented reports on their latest research on Botrytis and thrips.

A crowd of about 50 people were anticipated to attend, but more than 160 industry professionals showed up.

A new video contest has been launched encouraging people to showcase their love of flowers, with a grand prize of $4,000!

The 2017 #FlowerLoveVideoContest aims to inspire creative videos and promote the use and giving of fresh flowers.

We're seeking 30-60 second videos that may be skits, animation, surprise moments, musicals, testimonials, or other types of videos, as long as they feature and promote fresh flowers!

MSU Professor Awarded for Achievement in Horticultural Entomology

Dr. David Smitley, a professor and Michigan State University extension specialist, has been awarded the Entomological Society of America's 2017 Distinguished Achievement Award in Horticultural Entomology.

The award honors Dr. Smitley for his achievements and contributions to the horticulture industry.

For decades, he worked with the floriculture industry to identify and solve insect pest problems. In 2014, Dr. Smitley began work with nursery and greenhouse growers to develop practices for producing high-quality plants that are safe for pollinators.
