DISCOURSE-BASED GRAMMAR AND THE TEACHING OF ACADEMIC READING AND WRITING

This paper argues that discourse-based grammar is critical for advanced ESL/EFL literacy skills. Knowledge of how grammar is used as a resource to create discourse (rather than simply sentence-level grammar knowledge) helps learners to comprehend academic discourse and to produce more coherent and accurate writing. Read More

ACADEMIC READING AND WRITING EXPECTATIONS

This paper reports on preliminary research on the reading and writing expectations that university faculty have of students studying biology and business. A nationally distributed survey provided the data. Results indicate significant differences across majors in terms faculty requirements for the volume and types of reading and writing. Read More
