TRB's Skinner to Receive Award

Robert E. Skinner Jr., who is retiring as executive director of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) at the end of January, is the 2015 recipient of the organization’s Frank Turner Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Transportation, which will be presented during the Jan. 14 Chairman’s Luncheon at the TRB 94th Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., Jan. 11-15.

The award recognizes lifetime achievement in transportation, as demonstrated by a distinguished career, professional prominence and widely recognized contributions to policy, administration or research. APTA is one of the award’s sponsors.

Skinner will be honored for his career-long advocacy for innovation in transportation and his support of objective analysis as a foundation for policy making. Under his leadership, TRB strengthened the multimodal and multidisciplinary range of its programs, inaugurated major communications initiatives, fostered international research partnerships and coordination and worked to enhance the diversity of TRB’s committees, programs and staff.

Skinner will also deliver the keynote address during the Chairman’s Luncheon, the premier event of the Annual Meeting, “Corridors to the Future: Transportation and Technology.”

The meeting is expected to attract 12,000 transportation professionals from around the world and covers all transportation modes, with more than 5,000 presentations in nearly 750 sessions and workshops.
