Agency Leaders to Step Down

Hamm, C-TRAN
VANCOUVER, WA—Jeff Hamm, executive director/chief executive officer of the Clark County Public Transportation Benefit Area Authority (C-TRAN), will retire in June following a decade with the agency. Earlier he was general manager at Salem-Keizer (OR) Transit and Jefferson Transit in Washington State.

He is active in APTA committees including Bus & Paratransit CEOs, Legislative, Sustainability and Workforce Development.


Orseno, Metra
CHICAGO—Don Orseno, executive director/chief executive officer of Metra commuter rail, has announced his retirement later this year following a 43-year career. He was named to the post on an acting basis in 2013 and his appointment was made permanent the following year.

Orseno began his career in 1974 as a ticket collector on Chicago Rock Island & Pacific Railroad commuter trains. He joined Metra in 1984 and has held progressively responsible senior leadership positions, previously serving as deputy executive director/chief operating officer.

He is a member of the APTA Board of Directors and numerous other committees and is a past chair of the Commuter Rail Committee.


McLean, Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH—Ellen M. McLean, chief executive officer of the Port Authority of Allegheny County since 2014, will step down from the post on June 1.

McLean joined the agency in 2010 as chief financial officer and was interim CEO for a year before being named to the post permanently. Previously, she was managing director of infrastructure initiatives at the Urban Land Institute in Washington, DC, and chief financial officer for the city of Pittsburgh under former Mayor Tom Murphy.

For APTA, McLean is a member of the Board of Directors and serves on numerous committees.


Johnson, Connect Transit
NORMAL, IL—Andrew Johnson, general manager of Connect Transit since 2011, is stepping down to become chief operating officer of the Champaign-Urbana (IL) Mass Transit District.

During his tenure, Johnson helped Connect Transit secure local investment for the first time, modernize the dispatch system, improve public outreach and provide a real-time bus tracking app for customers. The agency received APTA’s Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award for small systems in 2015. Johnson serves on the APTA Board of Directors, chairs the Small Operations Committee, co-chairs the Procurement Steering Committee and is a member of several other committees.

NEW YORK CITY—Thomas F. Prendergast, who recently retired as chairman and chief executive officer of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority, has joined STV as executive vice president and chief strategic officer.
Prendergast’s more than 40 years of transportation experience also includes tenures as president of MTA New York City Transit and chief executive officer of the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority in Vancouver.
He is a former member of the APTA Executive Committee, APTA Board of Directors and numerous APTA committees.


BEAVERTON, OR—Dick Ruddell has joined Urban Solar as vice president of business development.
Ruddell, a former member of the APTA Executive Committee and Board of Directors, has extensive public transit experience, including a decade as president and executive director of the Fort Worth Transportation Authority. He currently serves on the APTA Clean Propulsion & Support Technology and Research & Technology committees.
