MVTA Introduces Direct Service to College

Students at Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) in Rosemount, MN, have sought a direct bus route for several years and, as of the beginning of this academic year, the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) in Burnsville, MN, is providing it.

The service, funded by the county for its first two years of operation, is an extension of an existing MVTA route that connects the campus with the Rosemount Transit Station.

MVTA Executive Director Luther Wynder said MVTA is pleased to make the campus service a reality. “Public transit can provide a vital link for area students to obtain needed education,” he said. “MVTA is thankful for the support for the service provided by local communities, public officials and DCTC students.”

DCTC Chief Academic Officer Mike Opp said he believes the service will encourage more students to attend the school. “We have always believed that there are students interested in our college and our programs but did not consider us due to not having reliable transportation to our campus,” he explained, “The current bus schedule will provide that reliable transportation.”
Rep. Jason Lewis (R-MN) speaks at the launch of MVTA’s new service to Dakota County Technical College.
