Leahy to Retire as CEO of Metrolink

LOS ANGELES—Art Leahy, chief executive officer of Metrolink commuter rail since 2015 and recipient of the 2017 APTA Outstanding Public Transportation Manager Award, has announced his retirement from the agency effective Jan. 4, 2019.

Leahy, a 47-year veteran of the transportation industry, came to Metrolink after serving as CEO of Los Angeles Metro from 2009-2015. He began his career in 1971 as a bus driver for the former Southern California Rapid Transit District (now LA Metro), rising through the ranks to become chief operations officer. He also has headed Metro Transit in Minneapolis-St. Paul and the Orange County (CA) Transportation Authority.

For APTA, he is a former member of the Board of Directors; a past chair of the Bus Standards Policy and Planning Committee and the New Starts Task Force; and current member of the Workforce Development, Sustainability, Commuter Rail, Bus & Paratransit CEOs and Legislative committees, Authorization Task Force and Commuter Rail CEOs and Education and Career Awareness subcommittees.


Ross to Retire After 20 Years with Pace

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL—Thomas (T.J.) Ross, executive director of Pace Suburban Bus since 1998, has announced his retirement at the end of November.

Ross’ public transportation career includes 19 years in the private sector and 25 years in the public sector, during which he has worked as a planner, engineer, maintenance director, general manager and executive director. For APTA, he is a member of the Mid-Size Operations and Bus & Paratransit CEOs committees.

 


Former DOT Secretary Foxx Joins Lyft

SAN FRANCISCO—Anthony Foxx, DOT secretary under President Obama and former mayor of Charlotte, NC, is joining Lyft in the newly created role of chief policy officer and advisor to the co-founders.

Foxx served from 2013-2017 as the 17th U.S. secretary of transportation. During his tenure as mayor of Charlotte, he made transportation investments the centerpiece of the city’s job creation and economic recovery efforts. One example, the Charlotte Area Transit System’s LYNX Blue Line Extension, is the largest capital project ever undertaken by the city.

 

WASHINGTON, DC—FTA has appointed Selene Dalton-Kumins associate administrator for the Office of Civil Rights and Kelley Brookins Region V regional administrator to lead FTA’s Chicago office.

Dalton-Kumins joined FTA in 2011 as deputy director in the Office of Civil Rights and has served as acting administrator of that office since March 2017. She has more than 15 years of public transit industry experience.

Brookins has more than 30 years experience in the public transportation industry, including 26 years with the Chicago Transit Authority. She came to FTA in 2014 as deputy regional administrator in the Region V Chicago office and has been acting regional administrator since March of this year. Region V comprises Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
