Connect Transit, Illinois DOT Receive FTA Bus Funds
During an Oct. 26 event in Bloomington, IL, FTA Acting Administrator K. Jane Williams announced that public transit agencies in the state would receive more than $12 million in competitive grant funds to improve bus transit service in central Illinois.
Connect Transit in Bloomington, which hosted the event, will receive a $6 million FTA Bus and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Grant for the purchase of battery-electric buses to replace aging diesel buses in its fleet. The system provides 2.3 million annual rides on 15 fixed bus routes and a paratransit service in Bloomington and neighboring Normal.
Another grant recipient is Illinois DOT, which will receive $2.3 million to replace buses and improve bus facilities around the state.
These grants were among 107 projects in 50 states and territories selected to receive $366.2 million in this latest round of funding under the program.
