KANSAS CITY, MO—Broadcast journalist Nima Shaffé has joined the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority as its corporate communications manager. Shaffé most recently worked for television stations in Detroit and Kansas City and also operated a consulting business for media training and communications strategies.


EDEN PRAIRIE, MN—SouthWest Transit recognized Eden Prairie Mayor Nancy Tyra-Lukens, a 21-year member and six-year chair of the SouthWest Transit Commission, with its 2017 Distinguished Service Award. She joined the commission in 1997 as a representative of the city of Eden Prairie.


GLENDALE, CA—TSS Paratransit has named Will Rodman vice president of business development. He has 40 years of consulting experience in the paratransit industry, including tenures as a principal of both Nelson\Nygaard and Multisystems and four years heading business development for ATC.


SAN JOSE, CA—Thor Vue has joined the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) as chief procurement officer. He joins VTA from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he worked in Dallas/Fort Worth and Sacramento.


FARIBAULT, MN—John Busskohl has joined ABC Companies as senior account manager in the firm’s Western Region, based in Costa Mesa, CA. Busskohl began his career with Arrow Stages Lines, one of the founding companies of Coach USA, and has served on the Gray Line Worldwide Board of Directors.


SAN ANTONIO—The VIA Metropolitan Transit Board of Trustees announced two new members: former Alamo Heights Mayor Louis R. ­Cooper, representing the Greater Bexar County Council of Cities, and Marina Alderete ­Gavito, appointed by the Bexar County Commissioners Court.

Cooper is a partner at One Touch Direct, a contact center with locations in San Antonio, Florida, New York and Canada. Gavito is innovation business development director for USAA.


LOS ANGELES—Bryan M. Sastokas has joined Los Angeles Metro as chief information officer. He most recently was chief information officer and head of technology and innovation for the city of Long Beach, CA, and earlier was chief information officer for Oakland, CA; Modesto, CA; and Coral Springs, FL.


ALBANY, NY—The Albany Business Review recently recognized Jaime Watson, director of corporate communications for the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA), as one of its “40 Under 40” in industries throughout the region. Watson received the honor for her four years of contributions to CDTA and her community outreach efforts.


LOS ANGELES—Sam Morrissey has been named manager of the California and Nevada planning and environmental technical excellence center for transportation at WSP USA, based in Los Angeles. Morrissey has nearly two decades of transportation experience, focusing most recently on BRT, automated vehicles and emerging transportation technologies.


BOSTON—Gerald Francis, president of Keolis Commuter Services, the Massa­chusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s operating partner for commuter rail, has been selected by Get Konnected!, a networking organization that brings together professionals from various cultures, as one of Boston’s top 100 most influential people of color, the GK100.

Francis has worked in public transit for 35 years. Before joining Keolis, he worked for Caltrain, San ­Carlos, CA, as general manager for ­Herzog Transit Services.


SAN ANTONIO—The South West Transit Association (SWTA) has elected Jeffrey C. Arndt, president/chief executive officer of VIA Metropolitan Transit, to a two-year term as its chair. He earlier served as SWTA vice president for two years and as a director at large.
