FTA Issues Letter on Drug Testing Rate
On Oct. 17, FTA issued a Dear Colleague letter to the public transit industry stating that the mandated minimum rate for random drug testing for safety sensitive positions will increase from 25 percent to 50 percent, effective Jan. 1, 2019.
The test rate has been at 25 percent since 2007 but, because the random positive drug test rate rose above 1 percent in 2018, FTA is required to increase the random test rate. More information will be posted in the Federal Register.
