San Joaquin RTD Starts 'Van Go!' Pilot

The San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD), Stockton, CA, has joined with Ecolane to introduce “RTD Van Go!”, a mobility-on-demand rideshare program, on a pilot basis, scheduled to expand service throughout the county in January 2019.

The service is fully rider-controlled through an app—available on both Apple and Android platforms—with which the user can book trips and schedule payment with a credit card.“Tailor-made-trips are a click or call away with RTD Van Go!”, said RTD Chief Executive Officer Donna DeMartino. “Residents start where they are and go where they want, fast. This connected service combines vans and free transfers to buses to continue longer trips.” She noted that residents of rural parts of the county are also covered by the service.

Van Go! is available to all riders in the service area, not limited to persons with disabilities. The service operates with six vehicles during the initial pilot phase and will expand to 14 vehicles when it begins operating countywide in January.

Every RTD Van Go! vehicle is wheelchair accessible, and drivers for the service are trained, licensed and fully prepared to help with accessibility needs.

“We are very excited to implement our first mobility-on-demand program that empowers all area riders to manage their own accounts with San Joaquin Regional Transit District,” said Daniel Andrlik, Ecolane vice president of product. “Ecolane is continually working on innovative projects to expand mobility and independence across the country and we are confident that the RTD Van Go! pilot program will demonstrate the proof of concept for other transit organizations throughout the U.S.”
