Get on Board Day: Increasing Support for Public Transit and Mobilizing Advocates

Get on Board Day! That’s the name of APTA’s new national awareness and advocacy day aimed at generating awareness of and increasing support for public transportation among riders and non-riders, elected officials and stakeholders.

Get on Board Day will be held Thursday, April 25, 2019 during the congressional spring break when elected officials are back in their districts. During that day, APTA members and stakeholders will be encouraged to hold events in their communities. APTA is developing a toolkit with messages and materials that can be customized. APTA Chair David M. Stackrow Sr. said, “Together, with one voice, on April 25, our industry will come together to highlight the many benefits public transit provides to communities. I applaud APTA’s Marketing & Communications Committee for its efforts to organize National Get on Board Day.”

JC Vannatta, chair of APTA’s Marketing & Communications Committee and managing director of communications, marketing and customer experience, Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon, Portland, OR, said, “We’re enlisting all of our APTA members to plan and participate in activities to make Get on Board Day successful so that our message is heard loud and clear.”
