TCRP Continues to Provide Solutions to Technical and Operational Challenges

The Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) was busy in 2017, publishing a number of innovative reports addressing a wide range of strategic and operational issues, including:

Report 190: Guide to Value ­Capture Financing for Public Transportation Projects
, which identifies requirements for successful value creation through transportation infrastructure investment and capturing a portion of that value through specific value capture mechanisms.

Report 191: Public Transportation Guidebook for Small- and Medium-Sized Public-Private Partnerships (P3s)
, which addresses why and when to consider P3s, what types of initiatives may be undertaken and how to effectively undertake these initiatives.

Report 192: Decision-Making Toolbox to Plan and Manage Park-and-Ride Facilities for Public Transportation: Guidebook on Planning and Managing Park-and-Ride
, which provides approaches to managing park-and-ride facilities and includes such topics as design, implementation, operations and maintenance.

Legal Research Digest (LRD) 48: Legal Issues Concerning Transit Agency Use of Electronic Customer Data
, which explores the advantages, disadvantages, risks and benefits for moving to electronic, cloud-based and other computerized systems for fare purchases and for communicating with customers.

LRD 50: Public Transit Emergency Preparedness Against Ebola and Other Infectious Diseases: Legal Issues
, which examines responses to epidemics and identifies legal issues that public transit agencies may have to confront.

LRD 51: Technology Contracting for Transit Projects
, which examines issues in drafting technology contracts as well as federal, state and local industry standards regarding liability and warranties and contract language to use to protect against data breaches.

Synthesis 128: Practices for Evaluating the Economic Impacts and Benefits of Transit
, which provides state-of-the-practice information for incorporating economic benefits and impacts into the decision-making processes.

Synthesis 129: Managing Extreme Weather at Bus Stops
, which documents practices for maintaining public transit stops and associated infrastructure during and following extreme weather events.
