Recent Federal Appointments

T&I Staff: NTSB and FRA
Staff members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Committee have been nominated to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and named FRA deputy administrator.

President Trump has nominated Jennifer L. Homendy, Democratic staff director of the T&I Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials, to the NTSB for the remainder of a five-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2019.

Before joining the committee staff in 2004, Homendy worked for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters; the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO; the American Iron and Steel Institute; and the National Federation of Independent Business.

T&I Majority Staff Director Matt Sturges has been named FRA deputy administrator, to be succeeded by Chris Vieson, the committee’s deputy staff director since December 2016. Geoff Gosselin, senior professional staff on the T&I Highways and Transit Subcommittee and senior advisor to the chairman since December 2016, will become deputy staff director.

“Matt joined the Transportation and Infrastructure staff when I became chairman in 2013, and he has been instrumental in the passage of every major piece of committee legislation over the last three congresses,” said T&I Committee Chair Bill Shuster (R-PA).

Before joining the committee staff, Vieson was a partner for Public Strategies Washington’s government affairs group, director of floor operations for Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), floor assistant and policy advisor on appropriations for Republican Whip Roy Blunt and legislative analyst for House Republican Conference Chairs Deborah Pryce and Adam Putnam.

Gosselin has served for more than 18 years on and off the T&I Committee, as a staff member of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee and the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee, as well as on the staff of committee members in their personal offices.

Garg Is New FTA Chief Counsel
Also, Arjun Garg has been named FTA chief counsel, effective April 23. He succeeds Dana Nifosi, the agency's deputy chief counsel since 2012, who has been serving in an acting capacity.

Garg is a Justice Department trial attorney who represented the administration last fall in a Philadelphia trial related to DOJ's decision to withhold public safety grants from the city because of its "sanctuary city" status. The administration lost the case.
