USSC Group Opens New Manufacturing Facility

USSC Group recently hosted a celebration for the opening of its new 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Exton, PA, across the street from its existing facility.

Joe Mirabile, company president and chief executive officer, said acquisition and renovation of the facility took only 10 months and noted that further construction will add 200,000 more square feet when completed in 2020.

“Constant innovation is the new normal,” Mirable said. “Programs such as the [federal] FAST Act and [Pennsylvania] Act 89 allow USSC to push the boundaries of what is possible every day.”

APTA Chair David M. Stackrow Sr., who spoke the event, said, “This kind of investment by USSC is vital to the future of public transportation. We are entering a period of transformational change, the likes of which we haven’t seen in more than 100 years. We’re in a race for the future. … A paradigm shift is underway and organizations like APTA and the USSC Group see countless opportunities.”

Ray Melleady, USSC Group executive vice president, said, “It is a rare opportunity that we get to truly connect the global with the local: in this case, federal and state funding with the creation of more than 240 local private-sector jobs.”

Richard Heaney, project manager for the Pennsylvania Governor’s Action Team, also spoke. The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development provided funding for the USSC Group project, including a $350,000 Pennsylvania First grant, a $109,350 WEDnet grant for employee training and $486,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits to be issued after the company creates the projected new jobs.
