Public Transit Use Can Reduce Road Fatalities Up to 40 Percent

Metropolitan areas that invest in public transportation can reduce traffic fatality rates by up to 40 percent, according to analysis released by APTA and the Vision Zero Network during a recent press event. [More]

'Husky Line' Launches In Portland, ME

Illinois, Tennessee Achieve SSO Certification

FTA announced that Illinois and Tennessee have obtained federal certification of their rail transit State Safety Oversight (SSO) Program in advance of the April 15, 2019, deadline, becoming the 23rd and 24th states out of 30 to achieve this certification. [More]

Metrolink Awarded $6.5 Million State Grant

Metrolink commuter rail in Los Angeles has received $6.5 million from the California Transportation Commission (CTC) to begin preparation for the first projects in the Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion (SCORE) Program, a $10 billion plan to improve regional rail service in time for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. [More]

APTA to Develop Recommended Practice for Installation of Cameras

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued a safety recommendation (R-17-13) to FTA regarding the installation of crash- and fireproof inward- and outward-facing audio and video image recorders in all locomotive cabs and cab cars to verify train crew actions and train operating conditions. FTA has asked APTA to develop a recommended practice requiring installation of such crash- and fire-protected recorders. [More]

Los Angeles Metro recently kicked off major improvements to one of the busiest stations in the Metro Rail system, Willowbrook/Rosa Parks, with an event attended by state and federal officials and local stakeholders. [More]
