U.S. rail systems—commuter, heavy and light rail, as well as streetcars—account for 33 billion rail passenger miles annually, according to APTA studies. The number of passenger rail systems grew from 52 in 1995 to 83 in 2015, with an 86 percent increase in ridership. [More]
